-- Welcome to the Hanover Theater --

The Hanover Theater opened in 1928 (as the State Theater) and was used as a theater until December of 1986 when it was closed and sold to a group that planned on converting it into an antiques mall.  The group started the conversion, but work stopped in the early 1990's and after that the theater was used as a warehouse.

In the summer of 2007 Casual Arts, an organization that supports theater projects that are part of downtown revitalization plans, learned that the theater may be for sale.  Realizing that there was a good chance that this historic theater would be demolished or converted to a non theater use, Casual Arts worked to raise the funds necessary to save the Hanover and on October 9, 2007 the Hanover Theater was sold to a holding company, Historic Hanover Theater, LLC.  It was originally thought that the restoration would begin right away, however restoration has been postponed until the revitalization of downtown Hanover is underway.  In the meantime, the building has been stabilized in anticipation of restoration at a later date.

Please explore our website to learn about the theater and the plans for its restoration.  Once the theater has been restored, this site will have information on all of the events at the Theater.

    Thanks for visiting!!
