-- Welcome to the Hanover Theater --

The Hanover Theater opened in 1928 (as the State Theater) and was used as a theater until December of 1986 when it was closed and sold to a group that planned on converting it into an antiques mall.  The group started the conversion, but work stopped in the early 1990's and after that the theater was used as a warehouse.

In the summer of 2007 Casual Arts, an organization that supports theater projects that are part of downtown revitalization plans, learned that the theater may be for sale.  In researching the theater's history it was learned that the Hanover Theater is one of only three theaters decorated by Arthur Brounet left standing. Realizing that there was a good chance that this historic theater would be demolished or converted to a non theater use, Casual Arts worked to raise the funds necessary to save the Hanover and on October 9, 2007 the Hanover Theater was sold to a holding company, Historic Hanover Theater, LLC.  It was originally thought that the restoration would begin right away, however it was later decided to postpone the restoration until the revitalization of downtown Hanover was in full swing.  In the meantime, the building was stabilized in anticipation of future restoration.

In August of 2010, it was determined that further delays in the restoration of the theater could jeopardize the revitalization of downtown Hanover and it was decided that the theater should be transferred to an organization or individual which was ready to pursue restoration and help keep Hanover's revitalization moving forward.  To that end, the theater is being offered for sale to qualified organizations or individuals who will restore the theater as a public building and preserve it's historic interior.  For more information on the sale, please contact us via the form on the "Contact Us" page.
